Colegiul National "Ion Luca Caragiale"
Colegiul National ‘Ion Luca Caragiale’ is in Moreni, a town in the southern-eastern part of Romania. In the past, our town had industry based on oil drilling and machinery production, but now, there are not too enough jobs from which the inhabitants can make a living. This is the reason why young people leave the home town to find jobs in Bucharest or abroad.
Our school has the aims to make the students acquire skills, competences and attitudes that will enable them to get good jobs, have a good life and become European citizens with solid education. Colegiul National ’Ion Luca Caragiale’ has 900 students and 60 teachers and it is both a lower- secondary school (11-15 years old pupils) and an upper secondary school (15- 19 years old). The pupils in the lower secondary school attend the mandatory subjects for their form and the students from the high school get specialism with specific domains: the Real Profile (Mathematics – Computer Science and Nature Science), the Human Profile ( Foreign Languages, Philology and Social Sciences). Our school has identified the needs to make the students obtain relevant skills for today's and tomorrow's societies, that is why, we aim to provide them good education from an early age, extracurricular activities and participation in European projects so that they should have the chance to reach their ambitions and study and work where they want in this world, as people with full rights and great skills.
This project addresses to 14-18 years old students who need to learn about their national identity and the other schools’ national heritage through research, documentation, comparison, presentations, workshops and first- hand experience. The school motivation to join this project is to develop the target group's relevant and high-quality skills that are necessary in today's society: communication, English, ICT skills, motivation for continuous improvement, self-confidence, general knowledge, civic and social skills at the same time with the raise of their cultural awareness.
